Clients can't tell you apart. So they argue about price.

I make the studio stand for one thing, so the right people recognise it and the wrong ones rule themselves out. Not a tagline — a decision about which clients you were built for, and which you'd rather send elsewhere.

For studios doing good work that keeps ending up in a bake-off.

What I do

Look at ten studio websites in your space. Same adjectives, same “we partner with ambitious brands”, same three services. If a prospect can swap your name for a competitor’s and the copy still reads fine, you don’t have positioning – you have wallpaper. And wallpaper competes on price.

So I find the sharp, true, narrow thing your studio is actually best at, and build the whole story around it: who you’re for, who you’re not for, and the reason a specific kind of client should feel you were built for them.

Then I make sure it’s legible everywhere it counts – including to the machine doing the shortlisting before a human ever calls.

Why Work With Me?

Because I’ve positioned my own studios, not just advised on someone else’s. I co-founded Ester Digital and ran its commercial side, I’m building UAREUX from nothing, and I run the commercial side of DNSK.WORK – a senior-only SaaS studio with a deliberately narrow focus.

I've run my own studios

Not just advised on someone else’s. Ester Digital, UAREUX, and DNSK.WORK – positioned with my own payroll on the line.

Narrow, not small

Niching down loses you the work you were underpricing and half-enjoying. It wins you more of the work you actually want, at better margins.

Positioning, not branding

Branding is how it looks and sounds. Positioning is why anyone should care. I do the second one – your team’s better at the first.

Legible to the machine

Buyers ask a model to shortlist before they call a human. A sharp position is something software can repeat. A vague one is invisible.

I say no for a living

Saying no to the wrong clients is half of positioning. I’ve turned down work to stay sharp, and I’ll help you hold that line.

A position you can hold

Not a banner that fades in a month. Positioning that changes what you sell, who you say no to, and how you price – so it sticks.

Services

What’s Included

When I sort your positioning, here’s what you actually get. No fluff, no framework for its own sake – just the decisions that change how you’re seen and sold:

The position itself

Who you’re for, the problem you own, and the reason it’s you – a decision, not a tagline.

The “not for us” line

Saying no to the wrong clients is half of positioning. We make the line explicit.

Messaging that survives a busy buyer

Not a clever line nobody repeats – words that hold up when a distracted prospect skims them.

A point of view worth holding

A real position you can stand behind, so you’re recommended, not just found.

Positioning an AI buyer can read

Written to be understood by the model doing the shortlisting, not only a human.

Who this is for

I take on studios where the work already stands up. Positioning cannot rescue output that doesn't.

This is for you if
  • You get compared on price more often than on the work.
  • Different people in the studio pitch it three different ways.
  • You take on projects you'd rather not, because saying no feels expensive.
  • You've won work you were the obvious choice for, and can't explain why.
This isn't for you if
  • You're after a rebrand — new marks, new palette, new font.
  • You'd rather stay open to anything that pays.

How the position gets fixed

Three stages, and the middle one is the hard part.

Step one · Paid · from £150/hr

Where it's soft

I read your site, your last few pitches and your client list, then tell you which parts of the story you can't actually back up.

Then, if you want it built
  1. Pick the fightOne sitting, with you

We decide who you're for and what you turn away. This is uncomfortable, it takes one sitting, and it's the whole job.

  2. Put it everywhereSite, pitch, team

I rewrite the places a prospect meets you, then brief the team so the same answer comes out of every mouth.

Position or just a list of services?

A real conversation, not a pitch. Tell me how you describe the studio now — we'll know fast whether you've got a position or just a list of services.

Agency Strategy & Positioning FAQ

Will I have to rebrand?

No. Positioning sits underneath the brand. Sometimes the visuals follow, but that’s your call and your team’s craft, not mine.

How specific is too specific?

The fear is always “too narrow”. In years of doing this I’ve almost never seen a studio suffer from being too clear about who they’re for. The opposite, constantly.

What if I don’t know what we’re best at?

Most owners don’t, not in words. Finding it is the work – it’s usually been sitting in your best three projects the whole time.

Does this help with the AI shortlisting thing?

Directly. A sharp position is exactly what a model can understand and recommend. A vague one is invisible to it.

My team can’t agree on the niche. How do we decide?

Normal, and usually a sign the decision’s been avoided for years. I’m not there to take a vote – I find where the evidence points (your best work, your best clients, your best margins) and make the call defensible enough that the room gets behind it.

What if a competitor already owns the position I want?

Then we find the angle they’ve left open, and there’s always one. “Best UX studio” is taken. “The UX studio for fintech teams drowning in compliance screens” is not. Specific beats better.
